Francis Ford Coppola's Rubicon Estate: A Venerable Winery Re-Scripts Its Brand Through Design And Technology

Breaking through many technological boundaries, FINE provided comprehensive design and development of a rich, cinematic and immersing wine website reinventing the Niebaum-Coppola brand (now Rubicon Estate) online.

On the front-end, the use of black and white imagery that transitions to color in selected areas hints at the project story. It’s a site, and a brand, that blends old and new, and the technology behind it is worth note.

The dramatic website design is served dynamically through a flash-based framework. Several cinematic features were used to enhance the user experience and push the boundaries of web-based information delivery, all of them completely automated.

After redesigning the web infrastructure, FINE designed and deployed a robust application managing virtually all winery website content and providing detailed reporting. Technology highlights include a custom registry and fully functioning online auction, custom Wine Club membership management application, and a dynamic storefront.

One of the most interesting aspects of the new winery website design is the complex integration of the latest Flash technology with a custom developed Java application and database. The live public Flash Web site pulls data directly from the database and application, creating a smooth and sexy User experience.

A fully browser-based business to business extranet was also developed allowing the sales team to maintain its sales, marketing and distribution contacts effortlessly.
